How to Silkscreen a T-Shirt at Home

I found some good videos on YouTube about how to make you own screen prints at home using a cheep hoop, fabric paper, glue, and of course paint and a t-shirt. This way you don't need any heavy duty/expensive equipment. The lady uses a large stiching hoop that you can buy at just about any craft or fabric store. She then stretches a really this fabric with loose stiching over the hoop, making sure it is very tight. She printed the artwork off her computer and traced it on the screen. Then she glued all the parts she didn't want color, let it dry, and wa-la she was ready for printing!

Threadcakes 2009: Threadless Contest Winners

Threadless has just anounced the winners of their 2009 Threadcakes Competition. Let me tell you, the work these people have done is anything short of stunning. How people can look at a complex shirt design and remake it into a 3D or 2D cake design is far far far beyond me.

The winner of the 3D challenge was Jennifer Flynn who recreated Noha's Epress into a 3D boat sailing on the ocean. With all the little animal detail whole project took her three days of hard work. As if recreating all the detail wasn't enough, she thought she would give her self an extra challenge and make the whole thing eatable! Which she actually managed to do...WOW! You go girl!

The First place spot in the 2D catagory goes out to Alex Waite who had a well thought out cake vertion of Immposter In The Bird Hotel. She really paid attention to detail, creating all of those little birds by hand! She took a different aproch than most when it can to cake construction. She decided to make each of the little windows into a seporate little tea cake. What a unique idea. The cake looks awesome, I hope everyone enjoyed eating it.

Be sure to check out the rest of the winners at threadcakes.com!

Spreadshirt Designer...Wear Your Thoughts

I have come across a great website for customizing your own t-shirts entitled Spreadshirt. Not only can you customize and design your very own t-shirts, but you can set up a free store and sell your designs! How sweet of a deal is that? The correct answer would be very sweet. But wait it just gets better...it is completely free to set up and maintain a shop, plus you get to set the commission. You as a shop owner don't have to do any hard labor, all you have to do is be creative. You even own the rights to all of your designs, so you are free to take them down whenever you please. Setting up shop is a no loose situation in my mind. If you are already planning on designing a t-shirt for you or your friends, why not put it in your shop so the general public can enjoy you creativeness as well!

Go check out the site for yourself!

The first is from Instructables.com.

The second is originally from the The Today Show but can be found at Craftstylish.com.

How To Cusomize Your T-Shirt To Look Vintage

Who needs to spend a large amount on a t-shirt labeled 'vintage' when you can just make your own at home. With these easy steps you can create your own vintage t-shirt out of your favorite shirt to give it a new edge or out of just anything you find lying around. You will be able to customize your t-shirt to your exact liking and have to satisfaction of knowing it is one of a kind! Plus it is cheap...who can't appreciate that? Now lets get started.

Step One: Make a solution to soak your shirt in by mixing 8 cups of water and 1 and a half cups of salt in a pot. stir the salt until it dissolves and the solution is boiling. Before placing your shirt in the solution make sure it has cooled off, we don't want to shrink our shits. Let your shirt soak in the solution for 3 days.

Step Two: After the 3rd day remove your shirt and wring it out. Then rub super fine sandpaper briefly along the outside and inside to give it that 'worn in some areas' look. Make sure you are gentle when going over any designs or words so that they don't rub off or ruin.

Step Tree: Hang your shirt outside to dry so it can catch some rays and fade into perfection.

Step Four: Quickly rise out your shirt in the sink then wring it out so it is only slightly damp.

Step Five: Now just wash your shirt in the washer and dryer as normal.

There you go, you are done. Feel free to alter any of the steps and experiment with it (this is your shirt not mine), but most importantly have some fun!

Custom T-Shirts....Why Should You Create Your Own?

The idea of customizing a t-shirt is great, but many people find it hard to have a reason to do so. Well that's because most of the time you don't need a reason, other than you just want a t-shirt that is unique and stands out. Sounds like a perfect reason to me! I love being the girl who stands out in a crowd with an original t-shirt I created myself. It always feels amazing when other come up and comment on my shirts. Who doesn't likes their art to be appreciated? Basically what I'm saying is that any reason is a good reason to creat a customized t-shirt. You don't need to be part of a group or team, because many places do individual custom t-shirts. So get out there, get creative, and get a custom t-shirt!
